About SocialBlogroll

SocialBlogroll is an evolution for the humble blogroll. For too long now he has sat hidden away in the sidebar of your website, always giving way to the latest fashionable widget. Never fulfilling his true potential and wishing someone would make him, well, a little more dynamic.

Authors use their blogrolls to recommend further reading to their audience. Being added to someone's blogroll is a sign that they think your material is high quality i.e. a vote for your site. So why not start counting these votes to determine which blogs are the most authoritive and interesting? The most popular internet marketing blogs voted by the internet marketing community.

Imagine if you could ask 100+ internet marketing professionals which blogs they suggest you read. Then rank all these sites depending on the number of votes they receive. Well that is exactly what SocialBlogroll has done for you.

The humble blogroll is now no longer a static addition to your blog but a dynamic voting platform. We poll these selected blogrolls each day to determine what is shown in our aggregator. These selected gatekeepers control the material that is held within our system.

What is the idea behind SocialBlogroll?

Big List - Search Marketing Blogs We got the idea for this project after reading this post by Lee Odden (TopRank). He talked about ways of easily monitoring the huge number of marketing blogs that are now available. The problem with some of the current aggregators is that they lack the social element.

For a long time the blogroll element of WordPress has not been used to its full potential. Many people seem to put up a list of links and then forget about it. However WordPress provides a great management interface which allows you to easily add or delete entries. Unknown by many, this list is actually made public in OPML format. If you have a WordPress blog you can find your public OPML list by using this address:

http://www.your-blog-name.com/wp-links-opml.php

We're now polling your OPML feed to find out what sites you recommend. This makes SocialBlogroll a truly social aggregator. The community decides what material is included and how it is ranked, not us. Links on blogrolls are recommendations or votes for websites. Now those votes are being counted.
